Bless-a-Child 2017 With Kelly
A FUNDRAISER ON BEHALF OF BRIGHT BLESSINGS
Bright Blessings called me 2 years ago with a weekday volunteer position. I was looking for something with a purpose to fill my days. Boy, did I find it! Months later, I decided to come on board in a part-time capacity, working with volunteer groups that came into Bright Blessings. Recently, I have taken the role of Agency Services Program Manager working with Shelter Services and Bless-A-Baby programs.
Having seen both sides of what goes on at Bright Blessings, I feel truly blessed. I have seen the looks on children's faces as they prepare items to get them ready to send out to the homeless and impoverished children served. These groups leave Bright Blessings knowing that every little task they did is helping the children served in some capacity.
Shelter services manager and Bless-A-Baby services manager has offered me the opportunity to work with and see the children served through Bright Blessings. Seeing a new mom struggling to take care of her baby and also go to school so that she can get her degree to better herself for her family is a blessing in itself. The gratefulness of receiving the baby basket filled with all the items Mom needs to help care for her child is priceless.
Walking into a shelter to help with a Birthday Party for the children having birthdays in that particular month and having them come running up to you and hug you and tell you, "Thank You" even before opening the gifts, brings tears to my eyes. The appreciation and love that these children have makes everything we do at Bright Blessings worth it.
I am asking friends and family to find it in their hearts to help with the Bless-A-Child campaign this giving season. Every dollar adds up - $10 will make a hygiene kit with all the essentials for a child to bathe and take care of themselves. So as you can see, every donation is a great donation.
About Bright Blessings
90% of every dollar goes directly into Bright Blessings' programs. Thanks to the generosity and caring of our volunteers and donors just like you, we will help provide joy, care, and hope to more than 10,000 homeless and impoverished children this year.
Bright Blessings first began in 2005 as a monthly birthday program for children staying at the Salvation Army Center of Hope in Charlotte, North Carolina. The organization's founders, John and Amy Cervantes, wanted to help brighten the lives of needy children while also instilling a love and commitment for community service in their own young children. For nearly three years, the Cervantes family threw birthday celebrations every month for hundreds of homeless children at the Center, adding educational and enrichment activities to their program and also providing the kids with gifts, new books and basic care essentials.
In March of 2008, the family decided to incorporate their program as a not-for-profit charity with a twofold mission of engaging volunteers of all ages to help brighten the lives of needy children across the greater Charlotte metro area. Today, Bright Blessings remains a volunteer-led organization that will impact more than 10,000 homeless and impoverished children this year through its core programs, Bless-A-Birthday, Bless-A-Baby, Gift of Literacy and Gift of Care.
