Frequently Asked Questions

I have items to donate. When can I bring them?

Thank you! Bright Blessings is open Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. You are welcome to drop off your donations anytime during our operating hours. Please call or visit our Contact page before you plan to come to ensure that our schedule has not changed due to holidays, special events, or inclement weather. For your convenience, we have two reserved parking spaces directly in front of our door for donation drop-offs.

Does Bright Blessing accept gently used donations?

Our programs are designed to bless children in need with “lift-me-ups” rather than hand-me-downs, and therefore all donations must be NEW and in unopened packages. I would like to volunteer. Can I stop by Bright Blessings to volunteer anytime you are open?

Every volunteer makes our mission possible, and we are grateful for all of the helping hands and hearts that fuel Bright Blessings! However, due to the high-volume of services that we provide and the large number of volunteers it takes to carry out our mission, we must carefully coordinate and schedule all volunteer programs and activities. As such, we are unable to accommodate walk-in volunteers.

To view available dates and register for an upcoming scheduled volunteer session, please visit our Community Impact Sessions page. Or consider hosting a collection drive for needed items from our Wish List or completing projects from your location!

I have a group that would like to volunteer. When can we come?

Wonderful! Simply complete a Group Event Request Form and our coordinator will get back to you with available dates and options.

What are your child and youth volunteer policies?

Bright Blessings is a family-friendly organization with volunteer opportunities for children in Kindergarten and up. For your family’s safety, children under 5 years of age are not permitted to volunteer due to the open environment of our facility and products on shelves that are within the reach of small children.

All volunteers between the ages of Kindergarten - Age 13 must be supervised by a parent or adult guardian during their service time at Bright Blessings. Youth ages 14 and older may volunteer independently with written permission from a parent or legal guardian. Permission forms are available onsite at Bright Blessings and must be completed and signed prior to the youth’s volunteer service.

Can I schedule a Bright Blessings speaker or representative to attend my event/meeting?

If you would like to request a Bright Blessings representative to attend or speak at an upcoming event or meeting, simply complete our Request a Speaker Form and our coordinator will be in touch to discuss the details with you

Is my financial contribution tax-deductible?

Yes, Bright Blessings is a registered 501c3 nonprofit organization and all donations are tax-deductible as permitted by law.

Can I make a contribution in honor/memory of a friend or loved one?

Yes, simply include your tribute request and the honoree’s information with your donation (check or online). Upon receipt, we will gladly send an acknowledgement to inform the honoree that a gift was made on his/her behalf.

- Bright Blessings is projected to serve over 13,000 children in 2019

- The average cost to serve one child is $34

Does Bright Blessings receive government funding or United Way funding?

Bright Blessings does not receive any government or United Way funding. We are 100% community supported by individuals, families, companies, churches/faith organizations, academic institutions, and community groups. Private grant/foundation funding comprises less than 5% of Bright Blessings’ annual revenue.

Is Bright Blessings part of a national organization?

Bright Blessings is an independent 501c3 registered non-profit with no affiliation to a larger umbrella organization. Several years ago, we began developing a National Affiliate Network to encourage and assist others in establishing their own affiliate chapters of Bright Blessings in communities and states outside of the greater Charlotte, North Carolina region. Our goal with the National Affiliate Network is to spread the mission and programs of Bright Blessings to impact as many children—near and far—as possible, while collaborating within a network of like-minded visionaries and doers. While the Bright Blessings National Affiliate Network is still in development, we do have a pilot affiliate chapter under way in the Asheville, North Carolina area. To inquire about starting a Bright Blessings affiliate chapter in your community, please contact Tisha Margraves, Executive Director.

Does Bright Blessings Accept Formula?

We are NOT able to accept formula due to storage space and coordination of expiration dates. We highly suggest taking your formula donations to Matthews Free Clinic who will gladly share it with families in need directly. They are grateful for these donations!
